Twenty for Prayer — July 2007

Here is the latest Twenty for Prayer. Again, there is no scolarly or styalistic charm to it, so I don’t recommend following the link unless you are interested in praying about this month’s subject.

Cheers.

This month I thought we’d pray about:  Employment

Quite a few friends seem to be struggling with this issue, and several have requested prayers.

I have read over the years quite a few stories of people who found a job only after turning to God. Often, they expressed the idea that during their prayer they came to realize that they always had a job – that of serving God – and that so long as they performed this job everyday, God would provide for them.

The particular way in which this came to pass differed in each individual case. Sometimes, a new job came suddenly. Sometimes, they were provided for in some other way. Sometime, there was a period of struggle. But, each time, they expressed the thought that their lives were richer for this understanding that it was for God that they labored, not for man, money, prestige or any other worldly thing.

So, this month, we can pray to see that all people are fully employed by God!

Topical Bible quotes:

” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27)

“Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded,” (Jeremiah 31:16)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

“And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.”Isaiah 65:21-22

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.” Joel 2: 25

“Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the Lord: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.” (Isaiah 66:9)

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (James 1:17)

“God is love” 1 John 4:8

  1. Your timing this month is impeccable

While I have been blessed with what I think is my perfect job: teaching in an independent Catholic school, the inactivity of summer break combined with the small size of my trial year salary has been weighing on me the last couple weeks. I needed to be reminded of how lucky I am and that prayer is the best answer to any worries I may have. I gladly add my prayers for others, that they may recieve the blessings I have been given.
