Twenty for Prayer — August 2007

Again, only of interest to those interested in praying. Of no literary merit on its own.

This month let’s pray about: Global Climate Changes.

It has become our tradition to pray about the weather during Hurricane Season, and I would like to continue this. However, there also seems to be a growing sense of the weather being out of control.

In some areas, it is getting warmer – thus talk about Global Warming – but as a friend pointed out, some places are getting colder or just changing, so he recommended the term Global Climate Change.

This changing in our weather patterns seems to be accompanied by a great deal of fear and some discomfort. I think both of these things need to be addressed in prayer. On one hand, we want to pray for the weather to stay in harmony with man and nature. On the other hand, we want to pray that if some change in our climate is God’s Will, that we can receive and accept these changes without fear and panic.

Normally, I include numerous Bible passages, but this time, I am only going to include one.
My favorite Bible passage on this subject is the one where God assures Noah that He will not flood all mankind again. He says:

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)

I think this is a wonderful promise, and one that we can hold to when praying about our climate. Rainbows still appear – the boys and I saw one about a week ago – so this promise is still good!

Let us know that God’s promise is still with us and with all our brothers and sisters across this earth.

  1. And at the very worst, we’ll have to pack all of our really unnecessary stuff and move inland!

    The Lord is my shepherd…

Personally, I feel that big global things such as climate change are His business. If He wants to bring waves, I’ll surf. If He wants to bring a desert, I’ll get used to traveling by night.

Certainly I’ll pray for those whose lives are made more desperate by these changes. Did you hear the latest scientific theory? Sunspots! And volcanoes!

    • Interesting!

I have heard that some of the other planets, Mars and Pluto, for instance, are also warming. This suggests that the sun may in fact be involved.

Either way, we have a choice to meet these things in peace or in fear, and Fear Not comes up quite a bit in the Bible. ;-)
