Twenty for Prayer — February 2009

Seems I fell behind on these. Again…they are of no literary value. So, only follow the link if you want to join in on the praying.

For February, let’s pray about:  The Economy

In times of struggle, it is important to remember who actually governs. Those disappointed with the new administration can take heart in the knowledge that it is God who truly governs. Those delighted with the new choice of president can also give thanks that a greater power stands behind even the best of men, shepherding and guiding.

But how do we pray about economic evils? How can we be sure that they are not God’s will – meant to punish the greedy?

In the prayer that our Lord left for us, we read the words “Thy will be done”, and we are told again and again the value of yielding to God’s will. Yet, sometimes in prayer, we shrink back from this, because we fear God’s will is not going to be what we want. We look around at some bad turn of events and wonder: did God will this? Can I even pray to Him to protect me from it?

When these fears arise, we can look back with joy at the very next line of the same prayer, in which all our questions are answered:

“Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

God’s Will is what runs heaven. If we pray for his kingdom to come, his will to be done as it is in heaven, we can be sure that we are praying for harmony and good for all – that while God’s Will may not be what we expect, it will bring us happiness and joy – not sorrow.

Bible Quotes:

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.  And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.  (Genesis 1:1-4)

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1-31)

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. (2 Samuel 22:31)

O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: (Psalms 7:1

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in greenpastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest  my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. (Psalm 23)

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Revelation 22:2)
