The Great Surprise

Surprise!

You would think I would get used to some things, that I would develp the foresight to anticipate something that happens every single day, but no…

Dinner is still a surprise to me.

Every single evening, about 5:00, I suddenly realize that the family is going to need dinner, and I am…taken by surprise.

Every day.

You think, since I have been a mom for almost 13 years, that I would have clued in at some point to the fact that this was a reoccuring phenomena. But no. I am still taken unaware. Every single day.

You may think I am kidding, but I mentioned this out loud last night, and my mom, who happened to be present, commented. “Yes. I know. For eight years, I came over regularly to help you with the children, and when I asked you what I should give the children for dinner, you were always surprised.”

I won’t be surprised tonight. Fridays during the summer, there is free pizza at the pool. But by Saturday? I will have forgotten all about this, and somewhere around 4:30 or 5:00, the shock will begin all over again.
