Occasionally, something odd happens in life and is never explained.

In 1985, I was sitting in a vehicle on my way to Baltimore to attend my first Science Fiction Convention with some friends who had talked me into leaving college for the weekend and coming on this adventure. Part way there, my friend exclaimed in awe:

"Look! On that flat bed that's going the other way, Daleks! What are they doing there?"

I did not look quickly enough. I never saw them. I had never seen Dr. Who. I did not know what a Dalek was…didn't find out that weekend either. It was years before I would know.

And yet, to this day, I occasionally stop and wonder: what was it that my friend Beth saw on that flat bed? And if there really were Daleks…why?
