Meme again

From Princejvstin
This can be a quick one. Don’t take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you’ve read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes.

1.  War and Peace
2.  Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain Series
3.  Nine Princes of Amber
4.  Gone With the Wind
5.  Tolkien — I count all five books as one story.
6.  Narnia
7.  And the Ladies of the Club
8.  Weirdstone of Bresingamen
9.   Atlas Shrugged
10.  Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass
11.  The Demon Lover by Victoria Holt
12.  The Queen of Spells
13.  Beyond the Darkness by Angie Fenimore
14.  Forgotten Beasts of Eld
15.  Wizard of Earthsea

Bah! I never, ever post anything without having to revise it:

Should have included:
The Bible
Science and Health: With Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
A Course In Miracles

But I don’t think of those books as books, more like tools for life.

  1. And Ladies of the Club made me think of a similar title though rather different in supposition:
The Ladies of Missalonghi by Colleen McCullough

Charming little book that I read over and over again on summer visits to my relatives. Grab it if you see it.

  2. Patricia McKillip is my favorite author, but I have yet to read Forgotten Beasts of Eld. I really should pick it up as I think it’s the book of hers that I’ve seen most frequently recommended. Song For the Basilisk and The Book of Atrix Wolfe are my favorites of hers. I’m really looking forward to reading her Riddle-Master trilogy this year.

The Book of Three, Atlas Shrugged, and A Wizard of Earthsea are all sitting on my shelf unread. :/ And so is The Weirdstone of Brisingamen but I just bought that like a month ago so I’m not going to feel guilty about it yet.

Writing the Breakout Novel is great! I like to re-read sections of that often.

    • I love the Riddle-Master books too! The first and the third, the second I do not reread. It’s a bit dull. She’s a wonderful writer.

I, too, often reread parts of the Breakout Novel…both the book and the Handbook, which is equally good.

  5. How could I have left off Prydain? Or the Queen of Spells!

BTW you are the only person I know of besides myself who knows and loves that book! I sing “As I was going to Banbury to the Mighty Mite on occasion…

Or, for heaven’s sakes, Zilpha Keatly Snyder’s Green Sky books (esp. The Changeling)–!

    • It’s funny how that book, which one would expect to be forgetable in so many ways, has really stuck with us!

Zilpha Keatly Snyder really deserves a place, too…though she was my bestfriend’s favorite author, so I always think of Gina when I think of her. I think The Changeling was the one that sticks with me the most. There are several things in that book that still come to mind often.
