Juss came running and screaming across the dining room. He stopped. “Mom, can we run and scream?”

Me: “Outside.”

Juss: “Okay.” He and his friend go outside. Running and screaming ensues. They come inside. “Mom, it’s hot. Can we run and scream inside?”

Also:

Juss’s friend comes up to me. “Mrs. Wright, do you have anything we can make a barbed harpoon with?”

Me: “Hmm. Well, we may have a stick to which you could attach another stick.”

Juss’s friend: “It has to be really strong.”

Me: “Huh. Probably not then.”

Him to Juss. “If we’re going to hunt dragons, I think we need a really strong harpoon.”
