Reading DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, Juss pointed out that ‘gonna’ was not correct grammar. I explained why it was there. He said,

“Kids do write that way. But not me. I use correct grammar, because I’m precocious. And I know what precocious means, which means, I’m precocious.”

Juss just read the line in DIARY OF A WIMPY KID where the boy says middle school is the dumbest idea ever. He turned to me and said, "I used to think that, too. But ever since the jump to Fourth Grade, school isn't so bad. Mainly because of reading."

Getting ready for the bus, Juss said, “There’s this girl at school, Michaela. She chases us boys around on the playground at recess.”

This is notable because, in his four previous years of school, he:

a) has NEVER mentioned a girl by name before.

b) has NEVER mentioned playing with other boys before.

c) did not used to play with other children on the playground.
